Notes on GenAI, CAD, hardware, media, and other practical questions.

• Text-to-CAD Method Survey: From Smartphone Photos to 3D-Printable Models Text-to-CAD and image-to-CAD generation has advanced rapidly in 2025-2026, with CadQuery emerging as the dominant intermediate representation. Zero-to-CAD (Autodesk AI Lab, Apr…
• Cerebro — Ambient AI Display on ESP32-S3 A push-based ambient AI display is worth building as a hobby project Best delivery: skill + MCP server (stdio transport, agent-agnostic) Any agent can use: Hermes, Claude Code,…
• Image and Text to Scale-Accurate Parametric 3D Models Verdict: Only worth doing if you constrain the scope to mechanical/product-style objects and build a harness around strong existing models plus CAD tools. It is probably not worth…
• Personalized Photo Selection with VLMs and LoRA Preferences Verdict: Only worth doing if you build it as a local-first, personal-taste-aware hobby tool or narrow enthusiast product. It is probably not worth doing as a generic SaaS…
• Delegating Tasks to Smaller Models Without Losing Quality The best current pattern is not to replace a frontier model with a smaller one, but to split labor: the stronger model plans, arbitrates, and handles edge cases, while the smaller…
• LLM Post-Training RL Methods Modern LLM post-training is best understood as a set of different feedback pipelines, not as one single RLHF recipe. Each process exists to solve a different bottleneck: SFT…
• Why 30 fps Often Feels More Cinematic Than 60 fps 30 fps often feels more cinematic than 60 fps because it sits closer to the long-established film cadence and usually preserves more of the motion abstraction viewers associate…
• Retina Tears and Retinal Detachment A retinal tear is a break in the retina; a retinal detachment is when the retina lifts away from the back of the eye. A tear can progress to a detachment. Classic urgent warning…
• Backrooms Creepypasta The Backrooms emerged from a 4chan /x/ image thread in May 2019, where a reply supplied the now-canonical “noclip out of reality” text. Its power came from liminal horror…
